Our roles Care Posted 3 weeks ago

Hands-on, patient-first care — the steady presence that makes a difficult day feel manageable.

The role

Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) support nurses and care teams in delivering personal care, observations, and day-to-day support to patients and residents. You'll work in hospitals, care homes, and community settings — wherever a person needs help that's both clinical and kind. The role is foundational to almost every healthcare setting in London, which is why we place HCAs as carefully as we place senior clinicians.

Who it suits

You'll thrive here if you've got patience, empathy, and a genuinely warm manner. Good for people who can balance compassion with the discipline of clinical work — observation matters, dignity matters, every shift. Equally good for those building a long-term career in healthcare and those who want meaningful, well-paid shift work that fits around study or family.

A typical shift

You'll start with handover from the previous shift — care needs, observations, anything to flag. From there it's personal care rounds, mealtime support, mobility assistance, vitals and basic clinical observations, and sitting with patients who need company or reassurance. You'll document as you go on the client's care system and hand over cleanly to the next team. Shifts are most commonly 7am–7pm or 7pm–7am, twelve hours including breaks.

Where you could work

Conifer places HCAs across NHS trusts, private hospitals, nursing homes, residential care homes, hospices, and supported-living settings. We match by speciality (general, elderly, dementia, end-of-life), shift pattern, and the kind of team you do your best work in. We work with London universities to channel healthcare students into shifts that fit around their clinical placements — they arrive mandatory-trained, placement-insured, and ready to step onto a ward.

About Conifer

Conifer isn't another agency. We're the partner businesses call when reliability matters, when fit matters, and when "good enough" isn't good enough. We look after our people, take care of the compliance behind the scenes, and pick up the phone when you need us — every shift, every site, every time.
