Our roles Care Posted 3 weeks ago

The people who help others live well — at home, in the community, on their own terms.

The role

Support Workers provide practical and emotional support to adults and young people living with disabilities, mental health needs, learning differences, or the effects of age. You'll work in supported-living homes, community settings, and increasingly in people's own homes as the NHS and local authorities push care closer to where people live. The role is part care, part coach, part advocate — and the best Support Workers are the ones who genuinely enjoy the people they support.

Who it suits

You'll thrive here if you're patient, person-centred, and genuinely interested in the people you support. A good listener. Comfortable holding both the everyday — meals, medication, appointments — and the bigger conversations. Equally good for career carers and for students in nursing, social work, or psychology building practical experience.

A typical shift

Shifts vary widely by service. You might support someone through their morning routine, get them out to college or work, help with cooking and medication, support a community activity in the afternoon, and document the day before handover. Some shifts are sleep-ins, some are waking nights, some are 1:1 community-based. The role is part care, part coach, part advocate.
