Our roles Care Posted 3 weeks ago

The cleaner who works around residents, not despite them — pace, dignity, and infection control all at once.

The role

Care Home Domestics handle the cleaning of resident rooms, communal areas, dining rooms, and ancillary spaces in nursing and residential homes. The work is recognisably cleaning — but the context isn't. Residents may be living with dementia, may need a quiet word before you enter, may want to chat for ten minutes about their grandchildren. The best Domestics in care are the ones who get the cleaning done to standard and treat residents as people, not obstacles.

Who it suits

You'll thrive here if you take real pride in cleaning to a high standard, are comfortable with older people, including those living with dementia, and understand that pace can never come at the cost of dignity. Good for experienced cleaners moving in from hospitality or facilities work, and for those starting out who want a route into care over time.

A typical shift

Shifts are typically eight hours, often 7am–3pm or 9am–5pm, sometimes weekends. You'll work through a daily schedule of resident rooms, en-suite bathrooms, and communal areas, plus deeper periodic cleans of dining rooms, lounges, and ancillary spaces. Infection control and colour-coded equipment usage are central. You'll log completed work and any concerns (residents who seem unwell, equipment faults) to the senior on duty.
