Our roles Care Posted 3 weeks ago

The shift lead who holds the floor — clinically sharp, calm with families, and the person juniors learn from.

The role

Senior Care Assistants run the care floor on shift. You'll lead a team of HCAs and Care Assistants, manage medication rounds, oversee care planning, liaise with visiting clinicians, and act as the senior point of escalation for residents and their families. It's a role for someone who's done the hands-on work, kept their standards sharp, and is ready to take responsibility for an entire wing or unit at a time.

Who it suits

You'll thrive here if you're confident with clinical decisions, comfortable holding a conversation with a worried family, and meticulous about medication and documentation. Good for experienced HCAs ready to step up, and for Senior Care Assistants who want a steady portfolio of well-run homes rather than the lottery of last-minute agency shifts.

A typical shift

You'll start with handover, then take the medication round — controlled drugs first, signed and witnessed where required. From there it's a steady rhythm of resident reviews, supervising care delivery, supporting HCAs through difficult moments, completing audits and admissions, and managing escalations to GPs, district nurses, or families. You'll close the shift with a full handover and any incident or safeguarding paperwork the next team needs.

Where you could work

Conifer places Senior Care Assistants across nursing homes, residential care homes, dementia-specialist units, supported-living services, and complex care packages. We tend to place Seniors with the same client repeatedly, so you can build a real working relationship rather than parachuting in and out.

About Conifer

Conifer isn't another agency. We're the partner businesses call when reliability matters, when fit matters, and when "good enough" isn't good enough. We look after our people, take care of the compliance behind the scenes, and pick up the phone when you need us — every shift, every site, every time.
